Manufacturing - turning the corner?

The latest CBI quarterly industrial trends survey is encouraging, pointing to a recovery in all measures of activity in the latest three months, a rise in confidence and the strongest employment growth for a year. The new orders balance +5%, was the highest since April 2012, and the balance for export new orders was the best since April 2011. Coming at a time of improved optimism for the eurozone economy - its purchasing managers' index for July rose from 48.7 to 50.4 signalling a return to growth - the survey suggests better times are ahead for manufacturers.
