January's manufacturing numbers, showing a drop of 0.9%, add to the evidence that the UK economy doesn't handle bad weather too well. Overall industrial production fell by 0.4%. Despite this, the National Institute reckons growth is hanging in for a positive first quarter number. It reckons that GDP in the three months to February showed a rise of 0.3% compared with the previous three months. Still, a decent manufacturing bounceback in February would be useful.
