Everybody who has studied economies will have come across Paul Samuelson, if only because of his textbook, first published more than 60 years ago, and the most successful, in terms of sales and longevity, in any subject. Samuelson, who won the Nobel Prize in 1970, was also hugely influential within the subject, publishing more than 500 research papers and surviving the backlash against Keynesianism.
